Inagural post here and what a great weekend it was . Weather was perfect both Saturday and Sunday topping off at about 68 with blue skies. The Colts did what champions do and survived on the road against conference rival, Tennessee. How good is Bob Sanders? 2 1/2 sacks? This guy is ridiculous and he single handedly changes our defense from one of the worst to one of the best. I loved the confidence/cockiness that the offense showed late in the game. It almost backfired on them, but if Peyton doesn't underthrow Marvin twice, it's no big deal and the Colts win by 9. It's early in the year and they went for the juggular. Houston could provide the same type of challenge next week, but more on that later in the week.
How about Notre Dame? I was in a golf tournament Saturday, so i actually missed any game played before 7pm, but from the sounds of it, they looked awful. I wouldn't say I am a Notre Dame fan, but I can't lie when I say that it makes college football a lot better each fall when they're competing for national championships (not that it's happened in a while). I realize their O-Line is a notch below Warren Central's, but just air it out with Clausen. Just let him throw 45 times a game and go from there. I don't think you can be a high school all-american without confidence, so let him rip it. At least give him a shot to break all of Quinn's records. The Penn State, which i was able to watch, he seemed like he started the game about 10 for 12 for maybe 40 yards. Let him air it out! Michigan State this week (who is looking a little more disciplined) could be a tough one, but I'm going out on a limb to say Notre Dame gets a big W this weekend. I thought I could find an argument against the people that said Ty Willingham didn't recruit. Unfortunately, I couldn't. By looking at Rivals, the word on bad recruiting classes was true and I guess we really are seeing the dividends.
The Hoosiers beat another MAC team on Saturday and honestly I think they could compete for a MAC championship if they were in it. Unfortunately they're in the Big 10, but judging by the rest of games played, they could factor in the top 6. Again, had to miss it due to golf, but sounds like they kept the Zips hanging around again. How good was Kellen Lewis? He's going to smash every single one of Randle-El's records! This kid is for real! With James Hardy on the outside, that could be the best combo in the big 10. Illinois comes to town this week and IU could start 4-0 for the first time in ages (I believe 1990). Comcast has spots running now saying that all the big 10 games are covered by abc, espn, or espn2 so don't worry about the Big 10 Network. Well, when your team is the doormat of the Big 10, I'm going to worry about it! I'd at least like to see 1 IU game this year! I saw the Western Michigan game from Average Joe's, but come on, I want to watch it from the confines of my sage green couch! If IU wins 7-8 games this year, the Bilitnekoff trophy may find a home in Bloomington. James "Baby Boy" Hardy!
More NFL rumblings...how sick did New England look last night? As a Colts fan, I'm supposed to hate them, but what can you hate about Randy Moss? Straight cash, homie! I'll hate them on Nov. 4th, but for now I'll just sit back and watch great football. It's already shaping up for another Colts-Pats playoff classic. Norv Turner will be the downfall of the Chargers and you can go ahead and count them as fools gold. They're a sexy pick, but Norv Turner is a joke and when you get them under a microscope, they're not that pretty. Do you think AJ Smith ever wishes he kept Drew Brees? Let's face it..Phil Rivers will never be a P. Manning, Tom Brady, or even Carson Palmer. At best, he's a Jon Kitna/Brad Johnson.
That's all I can do for now...big sports weekend is again ahead of us. Tyler Zeller is visiting Bloomington this weekend! If you're down there for the game, give Zeller some props and help him feel at home. It doesn't sound like he'll leave there with a verbal, but hopefully he enjoys it enough to decide by the time he hits Denny's on 45/46 like Derek Elston.
